DESCRIPTION:

The aim of the wayfinding project for the West Pomeranian Center of Oncology in Szczecin (Poland) was two-fold. First, our design team created a clear and understandable visual wayfinding system for the whole center. This system permits an accessible and easy orientation for all the patients at all the levels of the campus. Second, several types of media, such as: signage, wayfinding, and 3d mapping were generated.
This project was built on collaboration between maxberg architecture office and two architects: Kamila Buczkowska and Karol Barcz.

The mission of the hospital is to treat cancer in order to obtain the best results in terms of survival length. All along the project cycle, our ideas were being verified by the hospital authority, since in this kind of projects even the smallest mistake is not allowed. For this reason, we carefully investigated all the forms of the center staff and the campus area to understand how the center functions. Due to the complicated system of the hospital area, spatial models of buildings were used to the better identify the terrain. Thanks to this project, all the mistakes made in the previous version of the system of visual communication were detected and gradually eliminated. We reported on all the proposed changes providing the necessary information to the center authority. We used legible names and bright colors. The signage graphics are clear, aesthetic, and elegant.

The project of visual way-finding system for the hospital will be published in "Signs in healthcare facilities‍" by Design Media Publishing Limited (2017). The new publication will be sold in many countries. You can also find it on Amazon or on RIBA Bookshops.
